1. Air Volta Was Formed In Burkina Faso
On this day in 1967, air volta was formed in Burkina Faso, formerly upper volta. The name was later changed to Burkina air.
2. Referendum To End Apartheid In South Africa
On this day in 1992, areferendum on ending apartheid was held in South Africa. The referendum was limited to white South African voters, who were asked whether or not they supported the negotiated reforms begun by State President F. W. de Klerk two years earlier, in which he proposed to end the apartheid system that had been implemented since 1948 and 68% voted to end the apartheid.
3. Ethiopian Army Corps Were Attacked
On this day in 1988, during the Eritrean war of independence, the Nadew Command, an Ethiopian army corps in Eritrea, was attacked on three sides by military units of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front in the opening action of the Battle of Afabet.
4. Buenos Aires Israeli Embassy Bombing
On this day in 1992, a suicide bombing attack was carried out on the building of the Israeli embassy of Argentina, located in Buenos Aires killing 29 civilians and injuring 242 additional civilians.
5. Unrest In Kosovo
On this day in 2004, violence erupted in the partitioned town of Mitrovica, Kosovo, leaving hundreds wounded and at least 14 people dead. The unrest was fueled by reports in the Kosovo Albanian media which claimed that three Kosovo Albanian boys had drowned after being chased into the Ibar River by a group of Kosovo Serbs.
