Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken a significant step to improve road traffic management across the state by approving the recruitment of 338 new officers for the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA). This move announced on Thursday, aims to strengthen OYRTMA’s capacity and enhance traffic regulation throughout the state.
A Competitive Recruitment Process:
Major Adesagba Adekoya, the OYRTMA Chairman, revealed the details of the recruitment drive during a screening exercise held at the agency’s operational headquarters in Sanyo, Ibadan. He highlighted the competitive nature of the process, stating that over 2,450 qualified candidates applied for the 338 available positions.
Responsive Governance in Action:
Adekoya emphasized the recruitment drive as a clear demonstration of Governor Makinde’s commitment to responsive governance. He explained that the additional officers will significantly boost OYRTMA’s workforce, allowing them to more effectively manage traffic flow and enforce regulations.
Building on Previous Efforts:
The chairman further clarified that the current recruitment drive builds upon a previously approved policy from 2021 that has now been revalidated. This underscores the state government’s continued focus on improving traffic management in Oyo State.
A Diverse Candidate Pool:
Adekoya expressed his satisfaction with the diverse range of applicants participating in the screening exercise. He noted that qualified individuals from across the state, including Ogbomosho, Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, Oyo town, and Ibadan, were vying for the positions.
A Collaborative Effort:
The OYRTMA recruitment exercise is a collaborative effort between various state bodies. Adekoya highlighted the involvement of the Civil Service Commission and the Ministry of Establishment and Training in ensuring a smooth and transparent process.
Multi-Stage Screening:
The chairman outlined the detailed screening process that the candidates will undergo. It involves registration, accreditation, physical tests, and medical tests. Only those who successfully complete these initial stages will proceed to the interview session, conducted by the Civil Service Commission and the Ministry of Establishment and Training.
Addressing Unemployment and Traffic Concerns:
The recruitment drive has been lauded by other state officials. Adelowo Oladapo, a Senior Administrative Officer on Recruitment representing the Civil Service Commission, commended the initiative for its potential to reduce unemployment pressures in the state.
Similarly, Olusola Ojelabi, the Director of Recruitment and Service Matters for the Ministry of Establishment and Training, emphasized the proactive nature of the exercise. He sees it as a crucial step towards strengthening traffic enforcement and ensuring adherence to road traffic rules and regulations in Oyo State.
