The Lord’s Taverners, a UK-based sports recycling charity, has made a significant impact in empowering children and youths to participate in grassroots sports activities.
As part of their ongoing effort to support community sports and educational development, the charity recently delivered 712kg of sports kits and equipment to the Community Sports and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative.
This is the third consignment of sports kits and equipment that the Lord’s Taverners has delivered to the CSED Initiative since 2019, bringing their total donation to approximately 1500kg.
The recent donation of sports kits and equipment will be freely donated to projects that support vulnerable and hard-to-reach children and youths at IDP Camp Uhogua.
In addition, a new project to support asylum seekers and refugees in the Ogoja area will also benefit from the donation.
The Ogoja Sports for Refugees project is set to start in 2024, and the CSED Initiative has recently reached an agreement with the UNHCR field office in Ogoja to provide sports for change training programs for teachers and students in the three separate refugee camps.
The goal is to use sports to promote peace and unity between the refugees and members of the Ogoja community.
The donated sports kits and equipment will be an essential part of the initiative, providing children and youths with access to training in sports such as badminton, cricket, netball, table tennis, chess, scrabble, and taekwondo.
The CSED Initiative will gradually introduce these sports to P.E. teachers and selected students at the refugee camps and in the Ogoja community.
It is worth noting that the CSED Initiative has successfully distributed the donated sports kits and equipment to some of the projects, secondary schools, and universities that they currently work in partnership with, including the Edo State Cricket Association, ABU Zaria cricket team, IDP Camp Uhogua, and netball activities in Taraba, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom states.
The impact of the Lord’s Taverners donations has been significant, and it is hoped that the recent donation will continue to empower children and youths to participate in sports activities and promote peace and unity in communities.
