Latvia’s Defence Ministry says it has begun an investigation into the loss of contact with a drone on the Latvian-Russian border.
Military authorities said the aim of the investigation is to determine the hitherto unknown technical cause of the breakdown in communication with the unmanned aircraft.
Defence Minister Andris Spruds said on Latvian television in Riga on Monday.

The Baltic EU and NATO country’s army said that the drone went missing during a military exercise at the weekend.
There was a high probability that it landed on Russian territory, the Latvian armed forces said.
The surveillance drone was not fitted with any weapons.
Spruds said that Latvia had acted in accordance with international norms and informed Russia about the incident.
However, he said that Russia might use the possible landing of the drone on its territory for propaganda purposes, even though international practice would actually provide for its return.
