Heavy rains unleashed a deadly rampage across Nepal over the past two days. Landslides and flash floods triggered by the downpour claimed at least 11 lives, with lightning strikes adding another nine fatalities, officials reported on Wednesday.
The wrath of the monsoon was particularly destructive in Lamjung district, roughly 125 kilometres west of Kathmandu. Landslides ripped through the night, swallowing three houses whole. Four people, including two heartbreaking child casualties, perished in the disaster, confirmed district administrator Buddha Bahadur Gurung.

Meanwhile, flooding wreaked havoc in Morang district, situated about 500 kilometres southeast of the capital. District official Tek Kumar Regmi reported that four individuals lost their lives to the rising waters since Tuesday.
Further tragedies unfolded in Kaski district (west) and Okhaldhunga district (east), where landslides claimed three additional lives.
Nepal grapples with these devastating monsoon events every year. The mountainous landscape, particularly vulnerable during the mid-June to mid-September monsoon season, creates fertile ground for deadly landslides and floods, claiming hundreds of lives annually.
