The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in Maryland after its temporary closure less than two months ago. The bridge, which was shut down for repairs starting July 22, 2024, has now been reopened ahead of schedule, marking a key milestone in easing traffic flow between the Mainland and Island areas of the city.
State Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday. He highlighted that the rehabilitation was completed with significant contributions from both the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Transportation. The project was initially expected to last 90 days but was completed ahead of time.
Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat officiated the reopening of the bridge, commending the efforts of those involved. Osiyemi also thanked Lagosians for their patience and cooperation during the closure, acknowledging the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for efficiently managing traffic throughout the project.
The reopening is expected to greatly improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity within the city.
