The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to demolish over 280 illegal structures at the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme in Eti-Osa Local Government Area to prevent the creation of slums and protect the state’s coastal regions.
In a statement released on Tuesday titled “LASG Serves Contravention Notice on Illegal Occupants of Mayegun Waterfront Scheme,” the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, said notices had been served to property owners occupying these illegal structures. The affected properties include completed buildings, structures under construction, and undeveloped lands that were built without government authorization.
Alebiosu explained that the contravention notices demand the occupants present documentation and approvals for their properties within seven days. Failure to comply will result in the issuance of demolition notices.

The commissioner urged property owners to voluntarily remove their illegal structures or come forward to regularize their documents, if any, to avoid penalties. He emphasized that the Lagos State Government will no longer tolerate encroachments on government properties or waterfront schemes.
Alebiosu also revealed that the state is currently addressing similar encroachments at the Okun Ajah waterfront scheme and reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the state’s waterfront infrastructure while ensuring the safety of lives and property along Lagos’ coastal areas.
