Ms Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, had simply stated that the unregistered tiger nut drink was one of several possibilities being investigated.

Ms Ogunyemi shed light on the investigation into the tiger nut drink. Many patients reported consuming the drink before experiencing diarrhoea and other classic cholera symptoms. Authorities confiscated empty bottles with a brand name but discovered the product wasn’t registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the national body responsible for ensuring food and beverage safety. Efforts to locate the manufacturer and remaining stock proved unsuccessful, as the phone number on the bottle was not reachable.

While the tiger nut drink remains a focus of the investigation, health officials are not limiting themselves to this one avenue.
