A 400-level female Student of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, identified as Rasheedah Shittu, has reportedly killed herself over her poor academic status.
According to her colleagues, Rasheedat killed herself ahead of their upcoming exams by ingesting insecticide.
The deceased who was initially rushed to the university’s clinic, was pronounced dead immediately on arrival at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where she was referred to.
A staff member who was part of the medical team that attended to her at UITH confirmed that she was brought in dead.
The staff member who pleaded anonymity said, “Her colleagues said she was having issues with her academic status in school. She later informed her colleagues that she started feeling pain after she drank the sniper.”
According to a resident who witnessed the deceased’s Janazah at the Muslim Cemetery, Osere, Ilorin, the deceased was buried at the facility by family members and employees of the students affairs unit of KWASU.
When contacted about the tragic incident, KWASU’s Director of University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, in a text message said, I haven’t been able to reach the officer in charge. I’ll revert as soon as I do.”
