Committee’s Mission
In an effort to curb examination malpractice, the Kogi State Government has established an Examination Misconduct, Investigation, and Disciplinary Committee. This initiative aims to investigate any involvement by schools or individuals in the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) within the state.
Commissioner’s Directive
During the committee’s inauguration in Lokoja, State Commissioner for Education Wemi Jones labeled examination malpractice as a harmful issue that jeopardizes the future of students. He emphasized the need for the committee to thoroughly investigate and propose penalties according to the Kogi State Education Law of 2020.
Tight Timeline and Accountability
Jones specified that the committee has one week to deliver its findings, urging members to approach their duties with integrity and fairness. He assured that the government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo would act on the committee’s recommendations to combat examination fraud.
Committee Composition
The committee is chaired by Jibrin Saidu Alhaji, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, with Omolayo Barikisu Onozare, Director of Administration, serving as Secretary. The team also includes representatives from various educational and legal bodies such as the Ministry of Justice, KOSEC, SUBEB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, ANCOPSS, and NUT.

Permanent Secretary Jibrin Saidu committed to a detailed and impartial investigation, promising to uphold justice in their work. This follows the recent action by WAEC, which had previously de-recognized certain schools and blacklisted supervisors for their roles in examination malpractice during the 2024 WASSCE.
