Farmers in Katsina State are expressing grave concern over a mysterious worm infestation that is ravaging their grain plantations.
During a visit to several affected farmlands in the state capital, Channels Television discovered that the population of these worms has been rapidly increasing over the past few days.
Umar Masoyi and Ahmad Labaran, two of the affected farmers, noted that the surge in worm population seemed to coincide with a recent shortage of rainfall, as many farmers were concluding this year’s planting season. The worms have shown a particular preference for attacking guinea corn, millet, and maize crops.

In response to the infestation, farmers have begun spraying insecticides and are also seeking divine intervention to combat the pest problem.
The infestation has not only impacted the state capital but has also spread to nearby villages, including Autawa, Bambami, Daba, Sabon Gida, Dabaibayawa, Angawa, and Makaɗa in Batagarawa Local Government Area.
The increasing severity of the situation has left many farmers in a desperate state, as they strive to save their crops from further destruction.
