Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe have successfully secured their places in the men’s 100m semi-finals at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games, marking an impressive debut for both athletes.
Ajayi showcased a stellar performance by winning Heat 5 with a time of 10.02 seconds, edging out Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who finished second at 10.05 seconds. Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu claimed third place with a time of 10.06 seconds.
In Heat 4, Favour Ashe finished fourth behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon. Despite the fourth-place finish, Ashe secured his spot in the semi-finals by claiming the last non-automatic qualifying position.

In the swimming events, Adaku Nwandu, competing in the women’s 50m freestyle, finished second in Heat 6 behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh. Although the 16-year-old delivered a commendable performance, she did not advance to the finals.
As the 2024 Olympic Games progress, the performances of Ajayi and Ashe provide a promising outlook for their future events, while Nwandu’s effort highlights the growing talent in Nigerian swimming.
