Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for state civil servants, with effect from December 2024. This development was disclosed by the governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, on Saturday.
The approval comes after recommendations from a committee on minimum wage constituted by the state government. The committee’s mandate included reconciling local government finances to ensure a smooth transition from the current salary structure to the newly approved minimum wage.
According to the spokesperson, the reconciliation process is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized soon. Once completed, local government employees will also be enrolled in the new minimum wage salary structure, ensuring uniform implementation across the state.
The state government has called on civil servants to reciprocate this gesture by committing to effective and efficient service delivery. Governor Buni emphasized that the increase aims to motivate workers and improve productivity within the public service.

This announcement follows similar moves by other states to address workers’ welfare. For instance, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia recently approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage for state workers.
