The crash occurred near Homosassa, Florida, close to the Gulf Coast. Mensch was piloting a single-engine Vans RV12 aircraft when it crashed along the edge of a highway around 8 p.m. He was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
