Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has announced that he is taking an indefinite leave of absence due to a worsening medical situation affecting his family.
In a statement released on Saturday, Ngelale revealed that he made the decision after extensive consultations with his family.
Ngelale has also stepped down from his roles as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen. He submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his leave.
“I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family,” Ngelale stated.
He expressed his appreciation for the understanding of his decision, acknowledging that the work of the state continues irrespective of individual circumstances. Ngelale emphasized that his leave of absence would involve a temporary suspension of his duties as the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity and Official Spokesperson of the President.

He concluded his statement by requesting privacy for his family during this challenging period and expressed hope for a return to full-time national service once circumstances allow.
This development comes as President Tinubu’s administration continues to navigate various national issues, including recent discussions on fuel price hikes and other significant policy matters. Ngelale’s temporary absence may impact the communication strategy of the presidency as the government addresses pressing national concerns.
