The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦5 billion allocation to bolster research activities in Nigeria for 2024. The funds will be disbursed through the National Research Fund managed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Dr. Alausa made the disclosure during a recent education stakeholders’ forum, emphasizing that the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and academic excellence in the country.
“This is a landmark decision that highlights the administration’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s research capacity and improving the quality of education,” the minister stated.
The fund is expected to target key research areas that align with the nation’s developmental goals, including science, technology, agriculture, and health. Institutions and researchers will be able to access grants through a competitive application process overseen by TETFund.
