The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the successful recovery of more than 83 billion Naira, 609 million US dollars, and 5.4 million Euros over the past six years.
This significant achievement highlights the government’s efforts in retrieving stolen or misappropriated public funds as part of its anti-corruption drive.
The recovery was made possible through various anti-corruption agencies and international collaborations aimed at tracing, freezing, and repatriating illicitly acquired assets. The recovered sums underscore the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption.
In a related development, President Bola Tinubu has stated his intention to re-present a bill to the National Assembly that seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-corruption legal framework. The bill is expected to focus on more stringent measures for asset recovery, improved transparency in governance, and enhanced penalties for corrupt practices.

The bill had previously been submitted to the National Assembly but faced delays in deliberation and approval. With this move, President Tinubu aims to provide more robust legal backing for ongoing and future anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.
The successful recovery of these funds and the President’s proactive steps are seen as a major push towards greater accountability and good governance in the country. Analysts believe that if the new bill is passed, it could lead to more efficient recovery processes and deter corruption at various levels of government and society.
