The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has officially prohibited the Amotekun Corps and other vigilante groups from participating in the upcoming Ondo State elections. This decision aims to ensure neutrality and prevent any form of undue influence or interference in the electoral process.
In a statement, the IGP emphasized the importance of maintaining security through formal law enforcement agencies, with a focus on ensuring a peaceful and credible election. The directive restricts Amotekun and similar local security outfits from any involvement in the election, as their presence could be perceived as biased or intimidating to voters.
The IGP assured that the Nigeria Police Force, alongside other federal security agencies, is prepared to handle all security needs during the election, guaranteeing a safe environment for all citizens to exercise their voting rights freely.
