Frank Lampard has been named the new manager of Coventry City, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract as he seeks to rejuvenate his coaching career.
The 46-year-old former England and Chelsea midfielder takes over a Coventry side sitting 17th in the Championship. His appointment follows the controversial sacking of Mark Robins, who had led the team to the FA Cup semi-finals last season. Lampard’s first match in charge will be a home clash against Cardiff City on Saturday.
Coventry owner Doug King expressed confidence in Lampard’s abilities:
“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful. His experiences at Chelsea and Everton will bring a clear understanding of what is required to succeed at the top level.”
Lampard began his managerial journey with Derby County, guiding them to the Championship play-offs in 2018/19. However, his stints at Chelsea and Everton were less successful, with both tenures ending in dismissals.
This new chapter offers Lampard an opportunity to rebuild his reputation as a manager while helping Coventry aim for success in the Championship.
