Panic ensued following a fire outbreak at a section of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The blaze, which erupted on Thursday in the cyber room of the medical facility, was extinguished by operatives from various agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA zonal coordinator for the South-West, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of the fire had not been determined and there were no casualties.
“The fire, believed to have originated in the cyber room, has been extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries.
The cause remains unknown,” said Farinloye.
The hospital management issued a statement revealing that a fire erupted in the Information and Communications Technology Unit of the hospital.
The statement detailed, “A minor fire broke out in the Information and Communications Technology Unit of the hospital at approximately 2 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
“The fire department responded swiftly, and the blaze has been fully extinguished. There were no injuries reported.
“We wish to assure the public and our valued patients that all necessary steps are being implemented to guarantee their ongoing safety.
“Currently, investigations are in progress to ascertain the cause of the fire and evaluate the damage caused to the hospital’s infrastructure.”
