The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced that the recent hike in MultiChoice cable subscription rates will undergo a review by pertinent stakeholders to ensure Nigerian subscribers receive fair value for their expenditure.
Adamu Abdullahi, the Acting CEO of FCCPC, provided this information during an exclusive interview with Channels Television on their Dateline Abuja program on Thursday.
In the interview, he updated on the summons to the proprietor of a Chinese store in Abuja, who is accused of engaging in discriminatory and unscrupulous practices.
He further remarked on the compliance with the directive issued to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, noting that penalties are forthcoming for all confirmed violations detected by the commission.
MultiChoice, a leading satellite television provider in Sub-Saharan Africa headquartered in South Africa, has recently declared a new set of price increases for its DSTV and GOtv packages, attributing the hike to escalated operational costs.
The company has stated that the new rates will be effective from May 1, 2024.
The DSTV Premium package, previously priced at N29,500, will increase to N37,000, while the Compact Plus package, currently at N19,800, will rise to N25,000.
