Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved the implementation of a new minimum wage of **₦75,000** for civil servants, effective November 2024. This development was disclosed after a closed-door meeting between the governor and the state’s Joint Negotiation Council, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and affiliate unions.
During the press briefing held at the state secretariat, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare. He also announced the approval for the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears inherited from the previous administration, further solidifying his administration’s pro-labor stance.
The chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council commended the governor for the bold steps and assured him of their support for efficient service delivery across the state.

The announcement followed a strategic meeting attended by other key members of the state government, who deliberated on the modalities for implementing the new wage structure.
