The Abuja-Kaduna train has derailed for the second time in two weeks, causing significant disruption and raising concerns about the safety and reliability of the rail service.
The latest incident occurred early Wednesday morning near Jere, Kaduna State. Passengers reported feeling a sudden jolt before the train came to a halt. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, but the derailment has left many stranded and caused delays for others scheduled to use the service.
Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) officials are on the scene, working to assess the situation and clear the tracks. An initial statement from the NRC indicated that the cause of the derailment is under investigation, with early indications pointing to potential issues with the tracks or mechanical failure.

In response to the growing concerns, the Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has called for an immediate review of the safety protocols and maintenance procedures of the railway system. “The safety of our passengers is paramount, and we will ensure that thorough investigations are conducted to prevent any recurrence,” he stated.
