1. Plane Crash In Kano, Nigeria
On this day in 1973, Kano plane crash, which was regarded as the deadliest aviation disaster in Nigeria took place. A Nigeria Airways Boeing 707 crashed while attempting to land at Kano International Airport, killing one hundred and seventy-six passengers with only twenty-six survivors.
2. Kwame Nkrumah Was Arrested In Ghana
On this day in1950, Ghana independence leader Kwame Nkrumah was arrested for leading an industrial action and sentenced by the British to three years imprisonment. His newspaper was also banned from operation.
3. Nelson Mandela Was Awarded UNESCO Peace Prize
On this day in 1992, South African liberation hero Nelson Mandela and South Africa’s last together with apartheid regime president F.W. De Klerk were jointly awarded the United Nations, Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Peace Prize.
4. George Weah Was Sworn In As Liberian President
