1. Boko Haram Terrorists Attacked Police Stations, State Security Services And Others In Kano
On this day in 2012, after the friday prayers, armed men dressed in police uniforms stormed five police buildings, freed inmates and bombed the buildings. They thereafter, proceeded to two immigration offices and the local office of the State Security Service in Kano and bombed all.
The armed men who claimed to be boko haram terrorist killed pedestrians, motorists and police officers, including a journalist in their killing spree.
The terrorists dropped letters at the destruction sites and also contacted the press directly, stating that the attack was a protest against their members’ continued detention.
2. Amircal Cabra, A Guinea-Bissau Anti-Colonial Leader Was Assassinated
On this day in 1973, Amircal Cabra, a Guinea-Bissau anti-colonial leader was assassinated. He led the nationalist movement for independence in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde till his assassination.
3. Prime Minister Of Lesotho, Leabua Jonathan Was Toppled In A Couo D’etat
On this day in 1986, Prime Minister of Lesotho, Leabua Jonathan was toppled in a coup d’etat led by general Justin Lekhanya. Jonathan had been in power since 1965 and eventually assumed dictatorship after the 1970 coup d’etat that annulled the general election held in the country.
4. Sudan Government Imposed Nationwide Islam Law
On this day in 1991, Sudan Government led by Omar Al-Bashir imposed Sharia Law in Sudan. This fueled the already existing war between the Muslim North Sudanese and the Christian Southern Sudanese.
5. First African-American US President, Barack Obama Was Sworn-In
On this day in 2009, President Barack Obama, the inaugurated as the 44th United States president. He was the first African-American to serve in the highest office after previously serving as a Senator.
6. The Oldest US President, Joe Biden Was Inaugurated
On this day in 2021, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States. He became the first oldest person to hold the office. His vice president, Kamara Harris also became the first female vice president in the country’s history.
