The Ivory Coast national football team has recently announced the appointment of Emerse Fae as their new permanent coach.
Fae, aged 40, was previously serving as the assistant coach of the team during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which was held last month in Ivory Coast.
However, he was given the reins of the team after the French coach Jean Louis Gasset was fired from his position following the team’s poor performance in the group stage, where they lost two out of their three matches.
Despite the initial setbacks, Fae managed to lead the team to the knockout stages of the tournament, where they emerged victorious in a remarkable comeback.
The Ivorian Football Federation’s president, Idriss Diallo, confirmed Fae’s appointment as a permanent coach at a function in Abidjan on Monday.
This news was reported by the Ivorian media on Tuesday.

Before he was appointed the Ivory Coast coach, Fae had only limited coaching experience.
He had previously served as the coach of the junior team at French club Nice and had also coached the reserves at Clermont Foot.
However, his experience as a player, particularly his stint as an Ivorian international, playing in three Cup of Nations and the 2006 World Cup in Germany, has added value to his coaching abilities.
As the new permanent coach of Ivory Coast, Fae’s first assignment will be overseeing the friendly matches scheduled for March.
The schedule for these matches is yet to be confirmed.
He will also be leading the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gabon and Kenya, which are scheduled to take place in June.
