Ivan Rakitic, the former Croatian midfielder, has recently left the Spanish football club Sevilla for the second time.
The La Liga side announced on Tuesday that Rakitic is set to move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Shabab, with whom they have agreed on a deal.
Rakitic’s contract with the Spanish club was due to expire at the end of this season.
Rakitic initially played for Sevilla from 2011-2014, following a transfer from Bundesliga side Schalke 04.
He then returned to the club in September 2020 after spending six years at Barcelona.
During his time at Sevilla, Rakitic helped the team win a record-extending seventh Europa League title, after winning his first in 2013-14 during his first spell with the club.
The 35-year-old midfielder even became the foreigner with the most official matches in Sevilla’s history and the only player to have surpassed 300 games with the club (323).
In his six years at Barcelona, Rakitic won the Champions League in 2014-15, followed by the Super Cup and a Club World Cup.
He was also a four-time La Liga champion, a four-time Spanish Cup winner, and won two Spanish Super Cups.
The Croatian footballer has earned more than 100 caps for his country, representing Croatia between 2007-2019.
His contribution to the team helped Croatia achieve a runners-up finish at the 2018 World Cup.
