Despite struggling in their World Cup qualifiers and fielding five debutants in their starting lineup, the South Americans managed to get a good chance in the 35th minute when Lucas Paqueta hit the post. On the other hand, England was also missing key players due to injuries, including captain Harry Kane. Coach Gareth Southgate opted for an attack-minded line-up, but his team barely tested Bento, who was making his first appearance for Brazil in goal.
