The World Bank reports that improved access to internet coverage over three years has led to a seven percent reduction in extreme poverty in Nigeria and Tanzania.
The exposure to internet access also contributed to an eight percent increase in labor force participation and wage employment.
The report emphasizes the potential of digital transformation to drive development and inclusive growth in Africa, stating that closing the internet usage gap could create jobs and boost economic recovery.
Despite a 115 percent increase in internet users in sub-Saharan Africa over the past five years, the digital infrastructure’s coverage, access, and quality still lag behind other regions.
