The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set May 20, 2024, as the deadline for political parties participating in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election to submit the names of their candidates.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this announcement during a meeting with chairmen and other leaders of political parties held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Parties are required to finalize and submit the names of their candidates before May 20, as the portal for candidate submissions for the forthcoming Ondo governorship election will close on that date.
This meeting marks the second quarterly gathering for the year 2024, occurring just four months ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September. INEC has already released the final list of candidates and their running mates for the election.
Among the party chairmen in attendance were Abdullahi Ganduje of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Julius Abure of the Labour Party, and Shehu Gabam of the Social Democratic Party.
Yakubu also emphasized the importance of political parties adhering strictly to all electoral guidelines for the exercise.
