President Bola Tinubu has announced that he intends to dedicate his upcoming 72nd birthday to the noble cause of building a more stable, secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria. In light of this, he has requested that his friends and associates who wish to celebrate this occasion do so by donating money to charity organizations of their choice in his name, instead of placing advertisements in newspapers or on radio.
A statement issued by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed that Tinubu’s birthday is slated for Friday, March 29. The statement also emphasized that due to the challenging times, the country is currently facing, President Tinubu has decided not to host any birthday event and does not want any of his associates or well-wishers to organize any celebratory event on his behalf or in his name.
The statement further stated that President Tinubu is fully aware of the honor and responsibility that comes with being the leader of Africa’s leading nation at this time and is working tirelessly to make life better for the people of Nigeria. Given recent incidents such as the killing of officers and men of the Army and Police in Delta, as well as the spate of security breaches by criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria, the President has decided to celebrate his birthday more solemnly and reflectively.
The statement also emphasized that there should be no form of birthday event or placing of birthday goodwill advertorial messages in newspapers. Similarly, goodwill messages should not be placed on radio and television stations as well. The President believes that the current mood of the nation calls for a more restrained approach to the celebration of his birthday and that the best way to honor him at this time is to join him in the task of building a better Nigeria for all.
