The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has taken decisive action in response to the abduction of 20 medical students in Otukpo, Benue State.
These students were kidnapped while on their way to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the IGP condemned the abduction, describing it as “truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable.” Egbetokun expressed deep concern for the safety of the students and emphasized the urgency of their rescue.
To ensure the swift recovery of the abducted students, the IGP has ordered the deployment of substantial resources, including additional tactical units from the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) and Force Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT). Advanced helicopters, drones, and specialized tactical vehicles have also been mobilized to enhance the search efforts.

Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to securing the safe return of the students and vowed to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of those responsible for the kidnapping. He urged the public to provide any useful information that could aid in the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.
The IGP’s response highlights the seriousness with which the Nigerian Police are addressing this crisis, demonstrating a strong resolve to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians while maintaining peace and stability across the country.
