Deadly Assault Leaves Two Officers Dead
On Thursday, Boko Haram militants launched an attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, and leaving another officer critically wounded. The attack, which commenced at around 12:10 AM, was eventually repelled with the help of the civilian joint taskforce stationed nearby.
IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s Response
In response to the assault, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered immediate action against the perpetrators. A statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, condemned the attack and promised a thorough crackdown on those responsible.
Support and Condolences
Egbetokun expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that their sacrifice would be remembered and that their benefits would be promptly disbursed. He emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to justice, stating, “any cop-killers will not go unpunished.”

Operational Measures
The IGP has directed AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie of Zone 15 to mobilize resources and collaborate with other security agencies to track down and prosecute the attackers. This initiative reflects a broader effort to restore and maintain security in the region, with ongoing investigations aimed at ensuring those who disrupt peace face legal consequences.
Local Police Command’s Response
Borno State Police Command has also responded, with CP ML Yusufu conducting a scene assessment and commending the bravery and resilience of the officers involved in repelling the attack. This acknowledgment highlights the dedication of the police force despite the risks they face in such volatile areas.
