The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Mr. Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, a staff member of the Nigeria Immigration Service, for committing passport fraud.
The Commission arraigned Adeyinka before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja on four counts of gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating.
These charges are contrary to the provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and the Penal Code Act.
During the trial, ICPC counsel Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha presented evidence detailing how Adeyinka defrauded Mr. Ovie Justice Ojeffia by falsely promising to regularize his passport.
Adeyinka received N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) from Ojeffia for this service but failed to deliver. Ojeffia subsequently petitioned the ICPC, leading to an investigation and Adeyinka’s arraignment.
In his judgement, Justice Onwuegbuzie found Adeyinka guilty on all four counts. The court sentenced him to seven years each for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.
The sentences will run concurrently.
