A week after an explosion rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo State Government on Tuesday marked the Gasland retail office on Awolowo Road, Bodija for removal.
Crux News recalls that an explosion blamed on dynamite stored by illegal miners on Dejo Oyelese Street wreaked havoc on Tuesday, January 16.
Although about five persons have been officially confirmed dead and 77 out of which over 90 per cent have been discharged were injured in the blast, the community said about 10 persons are still missing from the explosion.
Governor Seyi Makinde had on Wednesday, January 17 vowed that those responsible would be brought to book.
However, despite the assurance that the explosion was not a bomb blast or caused by gas, residents raised fresh fears about the siting of filling stations and gas stations in residential areas.
The Bodija retail channel of Gasland was initially rumoured to be responsible for the unfortunate blast until information was provided to dispel the report.
Our Correspondent in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital could not immediately confirm if the marking was a response to the fears raised by residents.
The marking was carried out by the Oyo State Housing Corporation (OYSHC) on the fence of the gas station dated 23 January 2024.
