Mainz coach Bo Svensson has confirmed that he has no plans to step down from his position as the coach of the Bundesliga’s bottom club.
Despite their disappointing performance so far in the season, Svensson is optimistic that success in the upcoming German Cup match against Hertha Berlin could be the turning point for his team.
Mainz has only managed to bag a single victory this season, which came in the first round of the Cup back in August against second-division Elversberg.
The team has been struggling in the Bundesliga, having failed to win in their nine matches, and have only accumulated three points in total.
During a press conference on Monday, Bo Svensson expressed his commitment to his job, stating that he “completely rules out” the possibility of resigning.
“I am here, and I badly want us to be successful again,” he said, adding that it wouldn’t be suitable for him to even consider stepping down.
Although Svensson has admitted to questioning himself, he’s confident that the club leadership is fully backing him.
“It is very, very important to have this backing, but it is clear that it is not forever,” he said.
“It is remarkable how you can work in peace. But it is also a fact that I must deliver.”
Svensson believes that a victory in the upcoming Cup match against second-division Hertha could significantly impact the team’s morale and help turn the tide.
“This feeling to sit in the dressing room with a victory can give us a lot,” Svensson said.
“It is not an easy task in our situation, but we badly want to advance.”
