A hungry lion in the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, zoological garden has killed a veterinary technician, Olabode Olawuyi.
Olawuyi was wounded and killed on Monday afternoon by the 9-year-old lion.
The university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, in a statement on Monday, explained that Olawuyi had been in charge of the garden for almost a decade until his death today.
“The other members of staff at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities,” Olanrewaju said.
He said the university has sent a delegation to announce the death of Olawauyi to his family.
“The acting director of the university health and medical centre, Tirimisiyu Olatunji, informed the vice-chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire on arrival that all first aid and medical efforts to save the life of the victim proved abortive.
“The University management has sent a delegation to the widow and children of the deceased, imploring them to take solace in God who gives life and also has the power to take life.”
