The House of Representatives in Nigeria is set to propose the removal of universities from the Band A electricity tariff.

In a statement released on Friday, the lawmakers expressed their concern over the high electricity costs faced by universities, which fall under the highest tariff band.

The House Committee on Power has been tasked with drafting the necessary legislation to effect this change. Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, stated, “Our universities play a crucial role in the development of our nation, and it is imperative that we support them in every way possible. Reducing their electricity tariffs will not only ease their financial burden but also contribute to a more conducive learning environment.”
