Budget Defense Scheduled for Tuesday
The Nigerian House of Representatives is gearing up to start the defense process for the 2025 appropriation bill by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) this coming Tuesday. This was announced by Abubakar Bichi, the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, following a meeting with chairmen of various statutory committees.
Timeline for Budget Passage
Bichi expressed optimism about the swift progression of the budget, noting that the House aims to pass the budget before or by the end of January 2025.
President Tinubu’s Budget Proposal
In a related development, on December 18, 2024, President Bola Tinubu introduced a ₦49.7 trillion budget proposal for 2025 to a joint session of the National Assembly. Named “The Restoration Budget,” this proposal focuses on enhancing security, infrastructure, health, and education.
Key Budget Allocations
In his speech, President Tinubu highlighted major allocations including ₦4.91 trillion for defense and security, ₦4.06 trillion for infrastructure, ₦2.4 trillion for health, and ₦3.5 trillion for education, among other sectors. He emphasized that this budget is crafted to secure peace and build prosperity across the nation.
