The federal government plans to restart direct cash transfers to alleviate the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians, with an anticipated increase from 3 million to 15 million households benefiting from these programs.
Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, disclosed this during a ministry retreat, citing the escalating cost of living.
The decision aims to provide immediate relief and empower individuals to address their needs, with technology ensuring transparent and efficient payments.

Additionally, efforts to increase food availability and lower prices, including President Tinubu’s release of 60,000 metric tonnes of food grains, are underway.
Edun defended the plan, emphasizing its proven effectiveness in reducing poverty.
Addressing inflation, the government aims to reduce reliance on “Ways and Means” financing and collaborate closely with the Central Bank to stabilize the economy and restore confidence in the Naira.
