Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially acknowledged four new monarchs by presenting them with staff of office and certificates during a ceremony at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.
New Monarchs and Their Titles
Among the recipients is Mujahid Asari Dokubo, previously known as a Niger Delta freedom fighter, who has been installed as His Royal Highness, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema LGA. The other newly recognized leaders are:
- HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII, now the Amanyanabo of Koniju in Okrika LGA.
- HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd), recognized as Eze Igbu-Ehuda (Ahoada) IV in Ahoada-East LGA.
- HRH Prince Ike Ehie, appointed as Eze Igbu Orilukwoe in Ahoada-East LGA.
Governor’s Message to the New Monarchs
During the event, Governor Fubara highlighted the crucial role of traditional leaders in promoting unity, peace, and development. He stressed that their roles should be seen as a service to the community rather than a means for personal gain.
He stated, “Your appointment in terms of this recognition is not for personal aggrandizement, but a call for service, a responsibility to help us protect lives and property in your domains.” Fubara also cautioned that while the government could revoke their recognition if necessary, his aim was for them to collaborate with the administration to ensure the welfare and security of their communities.
Commitment to Partnership and Governance
The governor further encouraged the monarchs to support governmental efforts, emphasizing, “I want you to be partners with the government to ensure that we continue to succeed.” He commended their integrity and urged them to use their new positions to serve their people’s best interests.
Commissioner’s Remarks
Engr Charles Amadi, the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, opened the ceremony by acknowledging the new additions to the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, noting that this included two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses, and praised Governor Fubara for his role in this expansion.
