On Wednesday, Governor Alex Otti of Abia formally inaugurated the rehabilitation of the 30-kilometer Arochukwu-Ndiokereke-Okobo-Ozuabam Road.
During a ceremony in Amuvi, Arochukwu LGA, Otti stated that the project reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing the citizens’ living standards.
He emphasized the state’s deliberate efforts to refurbish economically significant roads in both rural and urban areas.
The governor declared the government’s commitment to eliminating any obstacles that might hinder the full potential of individuals and businesses within the state.
“Having pledged to alleviate the people’s suffering after years of hardship, we recognized the necessity of prioritizing road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance well before our inauguration,” Otti remarked.
He mentioned that the initiative began with key roads in Aba and Umuahia and is now extending to routes linking agricultural areas with cities, aiming to increase agricultural production, broaden economic opportunities, and generate employment, thereby reducing rural-urban migration.
Otti also noted that over 30 road projects are underway across the state, demonstrating the government’s resolve to widen economic and social prospects.
He assured that the government has carefully selected civil engineering firms with proven track records for these projects, ensuring value for the taxpayers’ money.
The completion of the project, expected in about 12 months, is anticipated to rejuvenate the agricultural and related business sectors across several communities in Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs.
