Borno state Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has underscored the need for good governance in curbing insurgence in the north.
Speaking at the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Award on Saturday in Maiduguri, Zulum emphasized the importance of the event and gave insights on tackling insecurity in the north.
At the event themed: “Creating Pathways for Peace: Tackling Banditry and Insurgency through Good Governance for Sustainable Development,” the governor in his keynote address stated that infrastructural development, educational reform, healthcare enhancement, empowerment and job creation are some productive measures that can address the appalling and prevailing insurgence in the north.
“It highlights the challenges we have faced over the years, particularly in the wake of Boko Haram crisis. It is evident that good governance is crucial in curbing future insurgencies,” he said
According to Zulum, such is being employed to curb insecurity in his home state.
“Here in Borno State, we have undertaken various projects since assuming office with the aim of promoting good governance and tackling all forms of insecurity,” Zulum stated.
Similarly, Chairman Board of Trustees, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, (SABMF) and former Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, also stated that the rise of banditry and other forms of insecurity was a result of deep-rooted socio-economic and governance issues in the region.
