Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) conceded defeat in the presidential election on Sunday, congratulating his opponent, John Mahama, of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The people of Ghana have spoken, the people have voted for change at this time, and we respect it with all humility,” Bawumia stated during a press conference.
Mahama’s Victory Confirmed
John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s president, confirmed Bawumia’s call on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The NPP’s internal tally indicated that Mahama had secured a decisive victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
