Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has attributed his restraint from taking certain actions to his deep appreciation for his political benefactor.
This explanation came in response to accusations of ingratitude amid the ongoing crisis between him and the former governor of the state, now the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Governor Fubara made these remarks while hosting stakeholders from the Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality, including the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation Worldwide, the Supreme Council of Ikwerre Traditional Rulers, and other representatives at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Ikwerre Ethnic Group, comprising four Local Government Areas—Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emohua, and Ikwerre—is the ethnic group of Nyesom Wike.
During the meeting, Governor Fubara reassured that despite the political events in the state, he would not act recklessly but would continue to show respect to individuals for their positions and contributions.
This statement came in the wake of the swearing-in ceremony of Barrister Emmanuel Frank-Fubara as a commissioner, confirmed by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly on Monday.
The ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt at about 5 PM.
Governor Fubara defended his recognition of the Oko-Jumbo-led assembly, insisting that it is the lawfully recognized legislative arm. However, he expressed disappointment with the police for their lack of progress in investigating the recent bomb explosion in Port Harcourt.

“I’ve not been hearing anything and I’m wondering, after how many weeks now, the Nigeria police are still not able to come out and make a statement about the attempt by someone – who I don’t know what his name is – tried to detonate dynamite in front of Hotel Presidential,” Governor Fubara said. “I’m still wondering why it doesn’t happen.
But if it’s maybe any other thing that has to do with us, they will say they should even charge the person for terrorism.”
Governor Fubara recalled instances where his supporters were arrested and charged with terrorism for crimes they did not commit. Despite these challenges, he stated that he would continue to rely on God’s grace and protection to govern the state effectively.
The governor’s remarks underscore his commitment to maintaining respect and order amidst political turmoil while seeking justice and accountability from the relevant authorities.
