Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso is expected to leave Ligue 1 side Marseille following their 1-0 defeat at Brest over the weekend.
The 46-year-old arrived at Marseille at the end of September 2021, replacing Marcelino Garcia Toral who quit after just seven competitive games in charge.
However, after failing to turn the fortunes of a team that has failed to win a league game in 2022, Gattuso is said to have admitted that he “no longer had any solutions” for reviving Marseille’s fortunes.
After Sunday’s defeat, Gattuso expressed his disappointment, stating that Marseille, who have now gone six games without a win, had “hit rock bottom”.
Although the details of Gattuso’s departure are yet to be finalized, it is expected to take the form of a mutual parting of ways rather than a sacking.
The club is already looking for a successor who can bring a fresh perspective and turn around the team’s fortunes.

Marseille’s current form is a far cry from the heights they reached last season when they finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League.
Apart from a narrow 1-0 win over fifth-tier Thionville in the French Cup, Marseille has not won since hosting Clermont on December 17.
They were subsequently knocked out of the cup by Rennes.
Their one bright spot has been a 2-2 draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League play-offs with the return leg at the Velodrome on Thursday.
However, this is unlikely to be enough to save Gattuso’s job, and he is expected to depart from the club soon.
