The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) faces a significant financial challenge in their efforts to hire the highly sought-after French coach, Herve Renard, as the next coach of the Super Eagles.
Renard has reportedly demanded a monthly salary of $180,000 (approximately N253 million), along with several other conditions, which presents a substantial obstacle for the NFF.
A top official stated, “Yes, the NFF has made contact with Renard for the Super Eagles job, but the biggest stumbling block is his demand for a salary of $180,000 per month, which is nearly N300 million.
This would be the highest salary ever paid to a coach, and the NFF simply cannot afford this. It may well be a wild goose chase.”
Renard has also received a lucrative offer from Egypt, reportedly worth $1.9 million, and his name has been mentioned in discussions regarding the new coach for the United States of America.

The 54-year-old coach boasts an impressive record, having won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with both Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire.
It’s worth noting that the previous foreign coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, had to accept a significant pay cut to extend his contract until the delayed AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
Peseiro started with a salary of $70,000 per month, which was later reduced to $50,000, and even then, he was owed for as many as 13 months at a time.
Sports Minister John Enoh has emphasized that it is the NFF’s responsibility to cover the costs of hiring a foreign coach for the national team.
