Fraudsters on Sunday hacked Cross Rivers State Governor, Bassey Otu’s phone number to falsely seek financial aid.
According to a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, the fraudsters impersonated the governor and sent several unsolicited messages seeking financial assistance.
The statement is a disclaimer to alert the public to disregard any of such messages.
The statement reads, “The public is pleased advised to disregard any such messages purportedly from the Governor.
“One of the Governor’s mobile numbers was breached by hi-tech criminals in the early hours of Sunday, February 11, 2024.
“The hackers have gone on to utilise the breached number to advance their nefarious activities to try to scam unsuspecting individuals. Please, do not fall to such devious attempt.”
The statement also revealed that the hacked number has been secured, while relevant security authorities are making efforts to apprehend those behind the criminal act.
