Former American football star, Alex Collins died on Sunday, August 13, in a motorcycle accident in Florida.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit confirmed that Collins was riding a 2004 Suzuki GSX-600K in Lauderdale Lakes when the accident occurred.
“Information gathered indicates that a woman driving a Chevrolet Suburban made a turn, crossing over the lane Collins was traveling in, causing him to strike the rear passenger side of the SUV.
“Alex was pronounced dead on the scene by the emergency responders that rushed to the location. The woman is cooperating with authorities who are still investigating the crash.”
Reacting to his death , NFL authorities in a tweet on Monday wrote: “The NFL family mourns the loss of Alex Collins and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, teammates and loved ones.”
Collins began his career in college football with the Arkansas Razorbacks from 2013 to 2015, going on to play in the NFL with two stints at Seattle either side of a season and a half at Baltimore.
He had his two best NFL seasons with the Ravens in 2017 and 2018. Alex also had two stints with the Seahawks. He played with Seattle as a rookie in 2016 and then returned to the club for the 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons.
Alex was out of pro football altogether in 2022 before he signed for the Memphis Showboats in the south division of the United States Football League in January 2023, ending the season on injured reserve.
