A morning fire in Jalingo, Taraba State, destroyed 30 shops at the roadblock area.
The cause is yet to be determined, but shop owners attribute it to black marketers using cooking gas or welders working in the vicinity.
Angry youths, dissatisfied with the fire service’s delayed arrival, reportedly chased them away, causing more damage. Police were called to disperse the crowd, and eventually, the fire was extinguished.
Shop owners estimate substantial financial losses due to the incident.
